VINOPOP Presents: Tamber Bey Vineyards, Napa Valley

VINOPOP is back for our 3rd season of wine tasting events! It all starts of with a bang on February 1 in Newport Beach. 

Come taste 5 beautiful wines with Vintner, Grower and engaging storyteller Barry Waitte of Tamber Bey Vineyards. Barry founded the winery in 1999 and in a bold departure from the conventional Silicon Valley narrative, Barry didn't rely on mountains of cash for branding; instead, he immersed himself in the vineyards, becoming a true grower. His unyielding passion for Tamber Bey's wines has earned the winery countless accolades and high scores over its impressive 23-year history.

You'd be hard pressed to find these wines at restaurants or even in retail. With a small case prodution of around 11,000 a year a vast majority of their wines are allocated to club members only. 

Tamber Bey's legacy boasts only two illustrious winemakers in its nearly 25-year history: Thomas River Browne and the current maestro, Sally Johnson Blum. Sally's wines have achieved multiple perfect 100-point scores from the discerning critic Robert Parker, secured a coveted spot on Wine Spectator's "Top 100 Wines in the World" list, and graced the prestigious White House State functions. Recognized by Glamour magazine as one of the US's "10 Most Badass Women Winemakers," Sally, former Director of Winemaking for Robert Mondavi Winery and Winemaker at Pride Mountain Vineyards, is now at the helm of Tamber Bey's winemaking prowess.

THE WINES:

2022 Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc (retail $34)

Lively flavors of grapefruit, white peach, guava, white flower and candied apricot provide the perfect introduction to this racy, playful wine that balances serious quality with serious fun.

2022 Sans Chene Chardonnay (retail $45)

This wine is primarily from the same Dijon Chardonnay Clone. Its complex aromas include green apple, ripe Persian melon, mandarin orange, lemon blossom and fresh fennel bulb, while on the palate, the wine is delicate, crisp and ultra-fresh.

2022 Burnside Vineyard Pinot Noir (retail $55)

This will be a treat! First single-vineyard-designated red Burgundy to be included in this collection of wines. This Pinot expresses bright flavors of tart cherry, candied pomegranate, rhubarb and fresh anise. 

2021 Deux Chevaux Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (retail $75)

100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Deux Chevaux Vineyard is Tamber Bey’s original wine, with a 50-case first release back in 2001. This Cabernet  expresses a range of enticing flavors, including ripe blackberry, yellow plum, black tea, elderberry and roasted coffee bean.

2021 Deux Chevaux Vineyard Rabicano (retail $85)

Tamber Bey's estate-grown Bordeaux-style blend wine is a masterful blend that exhibits the unique traits of the Deux Chevaux Vineyard. This wine is a blend that is truly greater than the sum of its parts: Cabernet Sauvignon provides a backbone of intense blue fruit and a weighty structure; Merlot brings the lush, texture and red fruit notes. Cabernet Franc adds a hint of crushed violets, and Petit Verdot adds the finishing touches,
